The entire world is in an uproar, and you’re trying to maintain normalcy. All while staying prayed up, stocked up, and locked up. Your home is now the centralized focus of your routines and tasks. How do you maintain your regular routines from becoming monotonous? Here are a few ideas:
Back off media - social and mainstream. Step away from the phone and turn the TV off. There’s no need to inundate yourself every minute of every day. You know the main details, and you’re already social distancing. Do not let this control you.
Meditate. The Calm app is great, but YouTube & Spotify both offer meditations to quiet your mind, make you feel more zen, and potentially reset your productivity when things seem chaotic.
Read. There are some fabulous Black women authors from Audre Lorde, Zora Neale Hurston, and Bell Hooks to Attica Locke, Tomi Adeyemi, and Brittany Cooper. Black women are rocking all genres, so there’s sure to be something for you.
Journal. Whip out a notebook and jot down a few things that you’re grateful for during this time. Take the time to map out a summer plan. Or even write a love letter to yourself!
Hot baths. Before COVID-19, many of you were running around at the speed of light, inundated with tasks, goals, so taking hot baths wasn't a priority. It's sure to put a pep in your step and have you relaxed and Queenin'.
In short, this is one of the wildest times of many generations to come. Go easy on yourself and give yourself grace. Find the things that work for you and remember you're not alone in this mass confusion and uncertainty, as everyone is just trying to figure it out.
