"Hello gorgeous, nice to meet you" Takia Ross greets as she enters the WeWork at 80 M St for the Fall 2017 Boss Up Pitch Competition in Washington, DC. Her necklace was large, in charge and making more than a statement. It was poised and elegant, much like her personality. Takia is the founder of Accessmatized, LLC a Baltimore based beauty company that prioritizes it's customer's needs by being open earlier and staying open later than it's competitors. Takia was recently named one of the Top 100 MBE in the DMV.

In 2015, she launched Pretty Mobile Baltimore (Pretty), which is the DMV's first mobile make-up studio. Pretty offers it's customers privacy during their beauty experience. "Who wants to get their lashes put on in the middle of Macy's" Takia explained. Her pitch was full of enthusiasm and confidence. The audience was fully engaged and agreed with the common beauty problems she is seeking to solve. After being one of the finalist for Boss Up DC, she and I connected on the possibility of hosting Boss Up in Baltimore.

Takia experienced the power of women of color pitching to a diverse audience who had invested their time and money into the participants and it was a no brainer for her to be fully committed to bringing Boss Up to Baltimore. She immediately assembled a team, found a venue, made connections in the community and brought aboard Chinere Carter, founder of Memory Maker, Inc as the official event planner for the event. Boss Up Baltimore hosted by Shelly Washington aka "Shelly Says So" is set for December 14th, 6-9pm at The Living Well. Donation tickets are on sale for ONLY $15! You can support a Black woman-owned business for less than a full tank of gas, less than dinner downtown, for less than a Black man's haircut, for less than two months of Netflix! The list goes on and on. $20+ is the going rate for most things except and early bird ticket to Boss Up Baltimore. Get your ticket now and watch a Black woman-owned business thrive.
